"If you're having a bad day, catch a wave and travel the world"

My blog will follow my journey surfing around the world as a british surfer along with other odd articles such as interviews and arty things to do with surfing such as surfboard art. I am departing with my love for the cornish surf and seeking new adventures. This will bring you articles and photography on the surf, Lifestyle, culture and any other quirky things on the places I visit. These will be Hong Kong, Australia, Fiji, Hawaii and California ( but you never know a few more places may end up being added in ) Up until Australia my partner and I have some idea what we’re doing. But for the rest of the trip we’ve decided to do it the way it should be and have nothing planned (well apart from the flights) we’re just going to land and see where our surfboards take us and the same will apply to my blog posts and writing !

G'day!

My names Emily Furness and I’m a freelance Journalist, watersports instructor and Lifeguard from Exmouth, Devon and I’m totally stoked about joining the Hotswell team. Not only am I stoked about this but also on the 30th of this month I shall be setting off on my travels around the world! (wahooooo). So that’s what most of my articles and photos are going to concentrate on for the next 6 months or so ….my little surf trip around the world from a British surfer’s point of view. The places I'll be visiting are Hong kong, Australia, Fiji, Hawaii and California. I am going to be taking my go pro to get some awesome underwater pictures and action shots. Also maybe to get just a couple of snaps of me out on the water with no wetsuit on, (just to rub it in a little bit that its summer over in Australia). You’ll all be getting your winter wetsuits, boots, gloves and hat out ready to hit the Ice cold surf, I’ve got to admit I won’t miss that this year sorry guys but its true!

My First stop will be Hong Kong as I thought the culture shock would be very interesting. I’m going to be staying on a boat in Aberdeen harbour because as much as I love cities in small doses, I just can’t stay away from the ocean! I have been debating whether I should surf out there? I mean I’ve researched some pretty awesome surfing locations… but the pollution and the fact there are sea snakes put me off the idea so I think I’ll leave the surfing to Australia, Fiji, Hawaii and California! ...So up until Australia my partner and I have some idea what we’re doing. But for the rest of the trip we’ve decided to do it the way it should be and have nothing planned (well apart from the flights) we’re just going to land and see where our surfboards take us!

So my blog posts will be a diary of my adventures including reports on surfing from all over the world along with articles about the lifestyle of different places. As I am sure living the island life in Fiji and hawaii will be amazing.. I will also be spending christmas and new years in Australia, so its got to be a morning christmas surf and a New years spent watching the fireworks from Sydney bridge!

  • Surfing Valentine's Cards ~ Now you can actually buy them!

Surfers are sweet. Sometimes salty, but mostly sweet. And to prove it here are some surfing-themed Valentine's cards. You can buy them from our Zazzle shop. Or if you're skint, just copy and paste one of the images below onto your Valentine's Facebook page. If that doesn't do the trick, they clearly have no feelings. Click on any image to view it in the shop.   ...
