What feedback are we looking for? We've been getting great feedback about our forecast accuracy (keep them coming in so breaks can be tuned). Now we can turn our efforts to developing a new mobile friendly version of the Hotswell website. We are keen to get your feedback on any areas we can add or improve on. The mobile version of the break page will be a completely new layout, so here's your opportunity to help us create your perfect page for when you're out on the road. We are currently planning the following Table type layout (no slider) No Map or Compass...

This week I'm going to have a little talk about the mind boggling 'volume' in surfboards! It's quite a strange thing, volume in surfboards. Some surfers can tell if a board is big enough or has enough float for them just by picking it up and having a good old feel. And there are also guys and girls out there that just buy a board and then find out that it's either too floaty or they're sat up to their necks when they're in the lineup. I get asked quite regularly 'how much volume does this board have?' 'how much volume...

Being a car-less surfer is a rough deal. Add to that the fact that I live 2 1/2 hours from the nearest surf area and you can imagine the planning it takes to get to the beach on those good swell days.  Luckily (and probably surprisingly) there is a small group of committed surfers in the Liverpool area that are organising trips to the beach at the slightest whiff of a swell. Last Sunday was one of those days. Early in the week, the charts had shown a solid long period swell was going to hit the SW of England over...

Most of the time, when making boards for customers, I get asked.... What does this do? What will that do? And to be honest, most of the time, when asking a shaper, you get the right answer.  There are the times when you will ask someone who isn't necessarily wrong, but could lead you down the wrong path of what you want on your next surfboard. From experience, not just as a shaper, but someone who loves riding boards other than my own, speaking to shapers is by far the best thing you can do when it comes to knowing what...

I'm a bodyboarder, living happily in west Cornwall. I try to take photos to showcase my love of the sponge in all its' glory - at heaving shore breaks or sketchy slabs... Well travelled, I've been to many of the usual haunts of a 30 year old male booger, and plenty of obscure places too. Having studied in Yorkshire and spent a lot of time in Scotland, I know the UK does have some special waves away from the hordes of the south west.   Made a DVD a few years back, check the intro here     http://vimeo.com/8648969 Again, trying to showcase...

Me, myself and me again Where to start….. My name is Tad Drogomirecki (seems like a probable place); I was born 28th july 1989 and have lived in Westward Ho since then. I joined W.S.C (Westward Surf Club) when I was 13 years old and have never looked at any other sport the same. Surfing has taken over my life to the extent that I have even skipped great opportunities of work because my favourite spot was firing at 6ft with light off shores (well worth it). I’ve lost a lot of friends due to my passion for surfing as it...

Last year I decided that I would like to try (my two left hands) at shaping my own surfboard. This opportunity became available to me as I am lucky enough to have a close friend who is a surfer/shaper and has been for the last 30 years. It really is quite remarkable when you see the fifty something frothing more about getting wet in the 2-3ft cross wind slop than anyone else around.  I have had many boards from Steve (the shaper) and have loved them all, so one day Steve said to me “why don’t you give it a try?” ...

Do you love surfing? Ever wanted to be part of the surf industry? We’re looking for passionate writers and other media contributors to join our media team!  This includes writing, photography, videography, blogging and more. Check our current blog out here.   It’s not all about who’s busting the biggest airs in the world, or who just got a ten point ride. We’re bringing back the surf community spirit of it all. It’s all about the local shaper doing something different, and that time you got absolutely pitted at your local break. We’re looking for bloggers to write about...

So I've been asked to write a little about myself (Myself being Maddie Meddings), and I'm sure, inquisitive readers as you are, you want to know a little about the person whose opinions and thoughts are being spread all over this blog. So for the next however many words I'm gunna be doing something I do really well, talking about myself. I'm not particularly narcissistic and I don't 'love myself' in any sense at all, in actual fact sometimes I really dislike myself, e.g. when I mess up a perfect wave, or get drunk and talk like a prat or forget...
